BFI Film Academy Scotland 2019 Residential – Applications Now Open!

A brilliant opportunity for young film makers aged 16-19 years

Applications are now open for young people aged 16-19 from across the UK to attend the BFI Film Academy Scotland Residential, running from Sunday the 4th of August to Sunday the 11th of August in Edinburgh.

As a student of the Film Academy:

  • You will get hands-on filmmaking experience which will enable you to develop practical knowledge and skills
  • You can explore your own creativity and passions in a supportive and dynamic environment with like minded people.
  • You will hear from industry professionals, gaining valuable insight into the industry
  • Your team will shoot and edit a film as part of the Academy

Over the course of 8 intensive days between the 4th of August to the 11th of August, passionate young filmmakers will be given hands on training in screenwriting, camera, directing, production, sound and editing, with participants collaborating to produce a short film with their team.  Participants will learn from some of the best talent in the UK film Industry through masterclasses, they will learn about the wider world of film, from education to development to finance and festivals with industry professionals, given advice and support towards a future career. To top this all off successful applicants will be hosted in the picturesque Scottish capital, Edinburgh.

This opportunity is targeted at young people who are keen to develop a career in film and have some experience in filmmaking; you may have attended a BFI Film Academy over the past few years across the UK Network, be about to start a college course, or be making films independently.

Course Fee

We welcome applications from talented young filmmakers from all backgrounds. The Course Fee ranges from £0 to £420, which includes your accommodation and food for the duration of the residential. Depending on your financial circumstances we will subsidise some of the Course Fee or all of it.
