SUMMARY:Film Access Training: Anti-racism
DESCRIPTION:The purpose of the training is to provide a ‘baseline’ awareness of issues around (anti) racism within the film sector. It will specifically explore the forms and manifestations of racism in broader society\, and in the specific context of filmmaking and film access.   \nThis baseline will then provide a backdrop to dig at the flashpoints around racism in film production\, film education and film-delivery and reception\, and the practical steps that can be taken at the individual and institutional levels to remedy these.   \nThe overall spirit of the training is to enable participants as a ‘community of practice’ – commissioners of film access projects\, and film producers and educators – to draw from their experiences of engagement with racially minoritised groups to challenge behaviours and practices to advance anti-racist and anti-discriminatory structures and processes in the film industry. Additionally\, the training will help participants to find modes of thinking\, engagement and representations to advance access to film programmes for\, by\, and among racially minoritised communities.  \nPlease Note that the training will encourage an open and frank conversation and sharing of ideas. The training will therefore provide a space and encouragement for participants to bring along any issues relating to racial justice\, equality and inclusion in the film industry they would like to explore!  \nTo make these sessions as relevant and useful as possible for participants\, registered participants will be expected to have some basic familiarity with the topics or undergone basic training on the topics covered by the training.  \nWhen: 21 February 2023\, 2-4pm  \nWhere: Online; a Zoom link will be shared with attendees one day prior   \nTo register your attendance please email info@filmaccess.scot alongside any accessibility requirements by 17 February 2023. The training sessions are free to attend for our members and associates. To join Film Access Scotland visit: filmaccess.scot/join-us/   \nFilm Access Scotland delivers training opportunities to develop the practice and skills of individuals and organisations working in the Film Access Sector.   \n  \nAbout the trainer: Amadu Khan is an Equality\, Diversity and Inclusion (EDI) Officer at the Royal Conservatoire of Scotland. He is a refugee-background international award-wining human rights journalist\, storyteller\, art-researcher and creative consultant. Amadu is interested in advancing equality\, diversity and inclusion in the fields of art\, culture and creativity\, social and cultural policy\, forced migration\, environmental justice and global/international development. He works with marginalised individuals\, groups and communities in Africa and the UK to contest ‘hegemonic’ power relations and practices\, and to facilitate their engagement and participation in processes and structures of society in a way that is empowering and reflects their aspirations.  \n  \n  \n
